Biography

Holley was a member of the department from 1973 through 1982, took a seventeen year leave of absence to work as an economic analyst and forecaster for Ore-Ida Foods, and returned to the department as a visiting professor in 1999.  He has been visiting ever since. His teaching assignments include a year’s sequence in quantitative methods, one semester of math econ and one semester of econometrics, that is required of all majors.  “It is a great experience to have the graduating seniors for an entire year,” he says.  In addition to these two classes he fills in with sections of intermediate micro or principles of micro.

Since the mid-1970’s he has cooperated with colleagues from the University of Idaho and Idaho State University to provide annual estimates of the state’s general fund revenues to the state legislature.  This lead to an interest in forecasting economic activity in the state which in turn, has lead to the formation of The Economic Forecast Project.  Modeled after similar projects in other states, the Project will provide forecasts for the state and its regions.  These will be presented in various communities throughout the state and is designed to be financially self-supporting.  Participants in the Project include Holley and John Church from the Economics Department, Rob Anson of Networking, Operations, and Information Systems (NOIS), and students.
